No new mumps cases in Bozeman since last small outbreak - KBZK Bozeman News

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Last month we reported on a cluster of mumps cases in Gallatin County. It now appears the small outbreak is contained.

The first case was reported in a student at Morning Star Elementary School in Bozeman. Officials confirmed a total of four cases.

We are now past the 25-day incubation period of the last known exposure.

Gallatin City-County Health Department Officer Matt Kelley says while he’s still cautiously optimistic there won’t be more cases, he says it’s a testament to teamwork.

“There was some disruption involved in this. But the parents, staff, the educators, the principal were all really great in helping us put in place the control mechanisms we know prevent spread of the disease. The good news is we haven’t had additional cases,” Kelley said.

Kelley also says the fact that there haven’t been any new cases is also a testament to the effectiveness of the vaccine.
